Hi Dan.

I want to be at the workshop. I also want to buy a new camera. Suggestions?

There are several models of dSLR's out there - with Canon and Nikon being the most well known. Another option to consider is getting some well taken care of second hand gear. Sometimes getting a year old model can make a budget stretch further to allow you to get a nicer lens, or some essential accessories.

The model, lenses, and accessories you will want to invest in depends on the type of shooting you want to do, and the output results you are after.

Choosing a camera is a hard thing to give good advice about. One important item to remember is that the glass is more important than the box.

If you have an investment in Nikon or Cannon glass then your choice is easy. If you are new to the SLR world, than you need to go to a shop and find lenses that you can work with naturally. Even if you are going to buy a fixed-lens camera, you need to consider the glass. Is it quality and fast, does it have the right focal length for your type of photography?

Consumers get carried away on brand names and megapixels, but in the end every picture you take, comes through the glass.

Hi Mike
I get that question all the time and unfortunately there is no clear answer as it all depends on what you want to do with your gear. Studio work, landscapes, weddings, sports, etc. And are you looking for an advanced hobby or something more serious. For sure I would look at the new DSLR (digital single lens reflex) as these camera bodies offers so much more than the consumer level point-n-shoot. When you have time please respond with some additional details on what your goal is with your new camera purchase.
